Perched on a hilltop about 10 km from town, this remarkable fort is often one of the first stops on a Sakleshpur trip, and for good reason. The journey to the top involves a short 15-minute climb, rewarding visitors with some of the most spectacular scenery in the region. Built in 1792 by Tipu Sultan, Manjarabad Fort stands apart from most Indian forts thanks to its unusual star-shaped design. Widely regarded as the only star-shaped fort in India, its architecture was inspired by European military engineering, making it a rare sight in the country. From above, the fort resembles a perfectly formed star, designed to provide strategic defensive advantages while offering clear views of the surrounding landscape. The moment you step onto the fort's walls, you'll understand why it is considered one of the top places to visit in Sakleshpur. Rolling hills, dense forests, coffee plantations, and layers of the Western Ghats stretch endlessly in every direction. On exceptionally clear days, locals say you can even catch a glimpse of the Arabian Sea, more than 100 kilometers away. As you explore, you'll come across old ammunition storage rooms, ancient wells, hidden passages, and open courtyards that have survived for more than two centuries.
